Do I have to repot my plant?
Yes, once. Rinse the soil off the roots, set the plant in Grava inside the insert, and drop the insert into the planter. It takes about ten minutes. After that you never repot into soil again; you just refill the reservoir.

Our soil-free substrate: porous lava rock blended with tree fern fiber, made in the USA. The rock wicks water up from the reservoir and keeps air around the roots; the fiber holds moisture and feeds the plant for about a year. No soil means no gnats, no compaction, no overwatering.
How often do I refill?

Every two weeks for the first few refills while the Grava saturates and the plant settles in. After that, every three to four weeks for most plants. Big, thirsty plants in sunny windows land at the shorter end.

The red gauge drops as the reservoir empties. Fill through the side port until it reads MAX. Never go past MAX.

Not if you stop at MAX. The plant drinks from below and takes only what it needs, so roots get moisture and air at the same time.

Which plants work?

Monstera, pothos, philodendron, rubber tree, money tree, dracaena, dieffenbachia, orchids, and most tropical houseplants love it. Cacti, most succulents, and anything that needs to dry out completely between waterings don’t. Not sure about yours? Email support@plantwell.co with a photo.

Leucadia and Torrey are stoneware thrown by hand in San Diego; every one is slightly different. Pacific and Mesa (our Core line) are designed in San Diego and hand-finished overseas, with the exact same reservoir, insert, and gauge at a lower price. Every planter ships with enough Grava to plant it.

No. The reservoir is sealed, so it’s safe on wood furniture with no saucer and no drips.

Yes. That’s the point. Bring any plant from the “works” list above and repot it bare-root into Grava.
What is stoneware?
What is stoneware?
Clay fired hot enough that it fuses into a dense, glass-like body. That’s why it’s strong, chip-resistant, and holds water without weeping, unlike terracotta, which stays porous. Leucadia and Torrey are thrown on the wheel from stoneware clay in San Diego, so no two are exactly alike. Natural Clay is left unglazed so you see the raw stoneware; Dipped Black and White with Iron Rim are glazed over the same body.

Planters ship within 2 business days from Carlsbad, California, and usually arrive in 3 to 6 business days by ground. Tracking is emailed the day it ships.

Yes, automatically in the cart: 2 planters save 15%, 3 save 20%, 4 or more save 25%. Mix any line, color, or size. Quantity discounts don’t combine with other codes.

Yes. Pot + Plant Bundles arrive planted in Grava and ready to display. Plants are prepared for 1 to 3 weeks before shipping and only ship when the forecast along the route is above 40°F; if it isn’t, we hold the order and email you an expected date.

Leucadia and Torrey are guaranteed for life against cracks, chips, and leaks. Pacific and Mesa are guaranteed for one year. If one fails, email a photo to support@plantwell.co and we replace it.
Can I return a planter?

Unused planters (never planted, never filled) can be returned within 30 days of delivery in the original packaging with the insert, gauge, and Grava. Email support first for instructions. You cover return shipping; we refund the pot.
What if it arrives damaged?

Email support@plantwell.co with a photo of the item and the box within 7 days of delivery. We’ll replace it at no cost, and you don’t have to send the damaged one back.

Plants can’t be returned. If yours isn’t thriving in the first 60 days after delivery, send us a photo and we’ll replace it or refund it.
